BARDIC BLESSINGS ON A LOVELY DAY!
What a fantastic day we had at this year's Fourth Annual Bardic Picnic event! The Sun blessed us and a few or four or five hundred more came out to listen to Poets, Singers and Stortellers weave words and a new Bard of Northampton was found in Caroline Hussey Bain who at the last minute felt compelled to enter the contest and stole the crown from the other worthy contenders. As well as the contest local bands and other musicians poets and storytellers from near and far filled the English Garden of Delapre Abbey with wonderful words of Joy! Celtic Rasta headlined the day with a storming set of heartfelt roots reggae and we all tumbled into our beds...eventually! A MASSIVE thankyou to everyone who took part, helped the event happen and of course all of you who came and allowed us to entertain you, we will bein touch soon! Many blessings! WORD!!!!!

TheBardic Picnic Needs YOU!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are now ten days away from this year's Bardic Picnic event and although we have a great team of dedicated organisers, great performers and fantastic support, it is still a voluntary community endeavour.
That being the case we are short of dedicated, hardworking community minded people who are willing to spare a few hours of their time either/and on:
SATURDAY14th FROM 12-6PM,
To erect marquees, assemble stages and generally lift and carry things,
On SUNDAY the 24th FROM 9am
To do the same plus general beautification from 9am-1pm.
During the festival we need Stewards, Car-parking attendants, donation collectors, litter pickers and most of qualified, certificate first-aiders.
Finally we really need people on
MONDAY the 25th FROM 9am-WHENEVER WE FINISH!
To help take down marquees, carry things and load vans.
All volunteers will be fed and watered and will (if they wish) enjoy a lovely after party/session.
If you think you up for any of this then please get in touch through the website and let us know asap!If you can't, please come and enjoy yourself! WORD!

The Brash and Brazen Bardic Benefit Bash
Bardic Benefit Gig
Labour Club,
97 Charles Street, Northampton
Friday 15th July, 7.30pm-12.30pm
Admission £3
Come and Get an Earful of This!
In order to raise some last minute funds for this year's Bardic Picnic, we are hosting an evening of loud exclamations and soul stomping sounds for your delictation!
Opening the evening is 'THE SILENT COMMITEE', the ethereal side project of ENKI'S bass player CHRIS FORDHAM. If you haven't had the chance to experience Chris' looped sounds, cosmic strings and melancholic beauty, now's your chance.
Next up are a sideways slap of larger than life excitement from Milton Keynes way called 'THE SUCCETTES'. Female vocalists set poetry and lyrical lushness to catchy rythyms and juicy joy to great and lovely effect.
Stumbling in from a life on the Nene and further afield are Northampton's latest burst of musical creativity, 'THE FAIRWEATHER PIRATES' They bounce between reggae and folk with an exuberrance that defy's catergorisation. They might even get you dancing.
And if that isn't enough this year's Bardic Picnic headliners CELTIC RASTA, put their tams away for a night to show us what they can do with the rocking blues. Mojo Rising? We jolly well hope so!
And just to show we haven't forgotten what we're about some of our top poets will be weaving rhymes in between the the acts, including a certain Bard of Northampton JOE BUNN, who will be one of your hosts for the evening.
JIM-TOM and JUSTIN THYME will fill in the blanks and the LABOUR CLUB will grease the wheels with reasonably priced booze and an amiable ambience.
Come and support this worthy cause and have a great nigh to boot! It is Northampton after all. WORD!

Ash Mandrake makes a surprise visit to the Awen!
This week's Raising the Awen was lucky enough that the man of "music stories hats loops and double-guitar mischief innovation," Ash Mandrake was driving through Northampton and made his presence known.
Ash played three songs and sold a few CDS. We now hope that he'll join us for the annual Bardic Picnic, 2011, details to still be confirmed.
