This year’s event is shaping up to be another great family day out. We expect the Bardic Picnic 2011 to be more eclectic, more inclusive and more fun for everyone who attends!

During the day, singers, bands, poets, and other spoken word artists will all perform on the main stage.  A second stage will offer a more intimate setting for spoken word poetry, sponsored by Scribal Gathering, and feature an open-mic for aspiring artists to perform. A third stage will highlight a storyteller's circle, where you can listen to or tell your favorite tale.

And don't forget "The Bardic Competition", the main event. This serves as a call to all aspiring poets, spoken word aficionados and storytellers!!! Click below to learn about the competition and take on the coveted role of "The Bard of Northampton."  If interested, please follow the link above to sign up!

There will be food, drink, and fun things for children, all in an open and tolerant atmosphere. In the sections that follow (choose the tabs above), we invite you to read more about this year's picnic.

If you would like to volunteer, have a stall, perform in any capacity (we have room for poets, rappers, storytellers, musicians and almost any other manner of stage performace), please click here to contact us.

Welcome, and we hope to see you all on July 24.

This year, the Bardic Picnic will host two stages for your entertainment. The main stage, and...

We are lucky and honored to have Richard Frost, the Bard of the North, host the second, smaller, and more intimate stage. This stage will be set up as part of the bar area at the picnic. Richard is well-known as the host of Stony Stratford's premier open-mic spoken word evening entitled "Scribal Gathering"

At the Bardic Picnic, 2011, Scribal Gathering will be showcasing some of the regular performers and writers from these monthly events. It will also be host to the Bardic Picnic's open mic, and thus open the stage up to anyone who wants to try out his or her talents in front of a new audience.

Don't be shy!  Instead, please feel free to turn up on the day with your words or music and he'll be happy to accommodate you.

"O thou invisible spirit of wine, if thou has no name to be known by, let us call thee devil....O God, that men should put an enemy in their mouths to steal away their brains! that we should, with joy, pleasance revel and applause, transform ourselves into beasts!"    --William Shakespeare

"Sacred cows make the best hamburger"   --Mark Twain

Northampton's very own The Labour Club will be providing a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to slake your thirst and inspire your poetic senses.

Mr. DuchyMr. Dutchy Caribbean food will be at the Bardic Picnic 2011. This great food combines a delicious mix of exotic spices and ingredients resulting in a taste of the Caribbean like no other.
