Kevan Manwaring
Born in Northampton in 1969, Kevan Manwaring is a writer, creativity coach and storyteller who has lived in Bath, Somerset, since 1996. He won the Bardic Chair there in 1998, becoming the 3rd Bard of Bath. Growing up in Far Cotton, he visited the site of the Bardic Picnic, Delapre Abbey, every day as a boy, taking his dog for a walk, day-dreaming and discovering 'poetry in the fields', like his early inspiration John Clare.
Holder of an MA in the Teaching and Practice in Creative Writing from Cardiff University, he currently teaches creative writing for the Open University and Skyros Writers Lab. He also runs freelance courses in storytelling and various aspects of the writing process to a wide variety of students. As a professional storyteller he has appeared in numerous shows both solo and with the storytelling troupe Fire Springs, in Britain and abroad (USA, Italy and Malta).
He is the author of The Bardic Handbook, Lost Islands, The Way of Awen, the ongoing Windsmith books and his poems and articles have appeared in several magazines and anthologies. He is the founder of the small press, Awen Publications and is the host of a bardic showcase, Garden of Awen. In May 2010 he was a Writer-in-Residence at El Gouna, a resort on the Red Sea, Egypt. He offers performances, workshops, and talks on the Bardic Tradition and the setting up of Bardic Chairs. He rides a Triumph Legend, and keeps an occasional blog of his adventures, Bard on a Bike. He is currently working on a book about seasonal celebrations.
